Creative Clocks

I LOVE clocks! I have one in just about every room of my house. My kid’s think I’m crazy. They say, “for a lady who has so many clocks why is it that you are never on time.” Guilty as charged. Infact, last year I had the hardest time getting my daughter to school on time. She even threatened to turn me in lol. I went to Hawaii for a week and while I was gone I had a friend come and stay with them. She was amazing and got the kid’s to school on time every single day. My first day back I was running behind as usual and Kelsey’s teacher said to her, “mmmmm so Kelsey, your mom must be back from her trip” lol. Anyway, I many not be punctual but I do love clocks. I decided to focus on creative variations of clocks. As well as inexpensive items that you can use for the clock faces.

wall clock
This First clock was a lot of fun to make. I saw something similar on line from a company in Holland. It came as a kit that you could put together yourself. Not only was it pricey, the shipping would have cost a fortune. I decided to try and recreate it out of $5 picture frames (4 8X10 & 8 5X7) from Ikea, a $20 Large clock mechanism from Robert’s Crafts, and The “Season” paper collection from Crate Paper (one of my favorite scrapbook companies). I simply scrapbooked (4) 8X10 pages and (8) smaller 5X7 pages. I then centered them on the wall as shown and attached the clock mechanism in the center. The variations are unlimited . I found the amazing clock below on line (For the life of me I could not find the link . . . if anyone can claim it please let me know so that I can give proper credit)

family
She even went the extra crafty mile and added photos with the corresponding number of people for the numbers on the clock (WOW)!!!

dcwv_clockOkay, I am seriously in LOVE with the new clock line from DCWV.  They really nailed it with this one.  They have a variety of styles and my favorite part is that each clock comes with several design variations.  You can purchase these clocks at Robert’s Crafts, JC Penny, and Target. Click on the photo for a link to other styles.
dan_time
I Love this clock. My Husband is even worse than me at getting places on time. It is a family joke that all events are planned around “Dan standard time” which is always about 20 minutes late. This is a fun gift idea for that person in your life. You can set the clock so it runs behind just like the individual. Simply purchase the desired clock and carefully take it apart.  Adhere black rub-ons, vinyl lettering, or stickers to create the title and then carefully put it back together.

utencil
Try making an altered version of this clock by purchasing old spoons and forks at a second hand store and attaching them to a painted wood plate (available at most craft stores). Adhere a fun phrase like “Bon Appetit”

Twister_revised
I think this is such a fun idea! Take an old Twister Board (or any other game board), and turn it into a fun whimsical clock. Simply add a clock mechanism and place in a 10X10 shadow box frame.

record
This is perfect for the music enthusiast in your family. Turn an old vinyl record into a clock.

This is a REALLy quick and easy way to make a great decor’ statment using clocks. Simply purchase three inexpensive identical clocks. Use vinyl letters to create desired cities underneath such as the ones shown. Have each clock set to that time zone.

  dryeraseclock

Create this fun clock using Dry Erase Paint.  Paint the clock face  (I used a 15″ Lazy Susan that I purchased from Ikea for $7 and drilled a hole in the center) with this Dry Erase spray paint from Rust-Oleum (available at Home depot).  I used a large circle stencil to position the center of the clock and then I used smaller stencils and stencil paint to paint the Circles that represent the numbers.  After attaching the clock mechanism,  I attached a photo hanging hook to the back of the clock.  You can purchase Dry Erase markers in a wide variety of colors.  Not only can you write in appts. you or your kids can also draw on it.

Create this stunning clock from . . . get this . . . a $7 Lazy Susan from IKEA!!!  The best part is you get two clocks from one!  Simply unscrew the top and bottom pieces and  you will end up with a 15″ clock face and a 7″ clock face.  The 7″ piece will already have a hole drilled in the center so you’ll only need to drill a hole in the center of the 15″ piece.  Next, I painted it black and  used flower stencils to create the design.  I attached the clock mechanism and a hook on the back and it was ready to go above the mantle.  This would make an awesome gift.

 Pizza_tin_final
This was a super quick and inexpensive clock. I simply purchased a large 16″ flat pizza pan from Walmart for around $4. I drilled a hole in the center for the clock mechanism. Then I spray painted it with paint that is made to adhere to metal. Next, I used misc. Black alphabet/numeral stickers that I had on hand to create the title and the random numbers on the bottom left corner. After attaching the clock mechanism you can attach a metal wall hanger with heavy duty metal glue.

With all of the vinyl lettering available these days, cutomizing clocks are easier than ever.  Here are just a few clock sayings to get your juices flowing:
-I don’t do mornings
-Whatever!
-Sweet Dreams
-Nap time
-Govern the clock, don’t be governed by it.
-Families are timeless
-Family Time is Treasured Time
-McKay Family Est. 1993 (place your name and anniversary)
-Together Forever
-It all begins and ends with Family
-Our lives aren’t measured in hours, but in treasured moments
-Always and Forever . . . No matter what
-Enjoy every moment
-Dan standard time: note this clock is set 15 min behind (insert desired name)
-Best Friends in Good times and in bad
-Always and forever
-You can’t change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future
-Don’t count every hour in the day, make every hour in the day count.
-Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday
-Lost time is never found again
-Make every moment count
-Play time
-Better late than never, but never late is better
-Time spent with Family is worth every second
