Recycle Repurpose Reuse

Recycle Re-purpose Reuse.  That is my mantra. I’ll admit, I am a packaging freak.  While most people are checking the prices at the grocery store . . . I am checking out the cutest spaghetti jar.  I love using  the very things that other people would just throw away.  Not only is it free, it really caused you to stretch your imagination and look outside of the box.  It forces you to start seeing other uses for everyday things.  Here are just a few recycled crafts to get your juices flowing.  I’d love for you to share some of your trash-to-treasure crafts.

Chrystal light containers_edited-1

My Son and I made these customized piggy banks out of old Crystal Light powered drink containers. We simply covered them with patterned paper (by Basic Grey) and made a slit in the lid.  We attached bookplates to the front using the Crop-o-dile by We R Memory keepers.

Board book_edited-2

Save the cost of purchasing chipboard albums.  Instead of tossing your children’s old board books, cover them with patterned paper  (The Prairie Collection by Basic Grey was used in this project) and use them to create personalized mini albums.button jar edited

This Button storage jar was made from an old plastic peanut jar.  I used the Crop-o-dile to attach the bookplate to the front with eyelets.  I decorated the top of the lid with patterned paper.

Altered phone station

I was tired of our cell phones cords hanging out all over the place and the phone charger my husband purchased was practical but not very attractive so I found this old vintage feeling makeup case and drilled holes in the back for the cords to come through, and made my own aesthetically pleasing charging station.

pin cushion edited

I love using vintage pieces in my projects.  But I’ll be honest I’m not the “antiquing in the country” kind of girl . . . I’m more like the grungy Saturday yard sale kind of girl.  I think for me it is the thrill of the find.  Don’t get me wrong. . . I love antique stores, but I know I’ll find something I love.  When you search a yard-sale it’s like a huge mystery and the find is always a bigger thrill.  This pin cushion was made from an old zink canning lid and some scrap fabric that I had.

recycled produce tag

The Grocery store is one of my favorite places to find crafting goodies.  The tag on this bag of candy was made from an old produce tag . . . you know the ones you find in produce or in the bulk food isle.  I love that it has a bag closure at the top.  I simply covered it with patterned paper and used it to seal the bag.

welcome basket

This Welcome gift basket was made from an old “Bear Creek” soup can.  It is about half the size of a #10 can and it works perfectly for a basket.  I used the crop-o-dile to punch holes on both sides and then used a heavy gauge wire to make a handle.  I also used the crop-o-dile to attach the bookplate to the front.

Your segment about reusing containers has got me shopping in the same way! “What a cute container…..not that I need the 5lbs of trail mix that it comes it”. My craft room is starting to get piled up with containers, but I am using them way more that I ever thought I would. Love all the ideas! Thanks

Great ideas! My craft room has like 10 bags of containers right now too! Hub thinks I am insane, until I use them to make something cute. I also reused over 200 baby food jars and organized his screws and things in his shop, so he can’t think I’m too nuts!

I love the big Kool-aid canisters. They are huge, but perfect for covering with paper, adding a label, and using for bigger items like clothes pins in the laundry room, a whole box tea bags in the kitchen, or even sorting craft supplies.

    Thanks for sharing your ideas!
