Trend Alert: Burlap

Burlap is nothing new.  It’s been used in country style decor for years.  What is new is that it is being spotted EVERWHERE!  Most surpising . . . in formal and elegant decor.  I’ve been seeing it on wall art, trendy handbags and even couches . . . YES couches.  Pottery Barn has touches of it everywhere.  I decided to try my hand at it and see what I could come up with.  I’d love to hear your comments and and ideas you have.

I have always loved the look of burlap but have never worked with it. You ideas are fantastic. Where is the best place to get burlap?

I am also a huge fan of burlap. I haven’t ever seen stencil adhesive spray, I have always made my stencils out of freezer paper and ironed them on. Is this type of stencil re-useable?

Hey Kristine! I just found your blog through Ucreate! Love your ideas! I don’t know if you remember me but our husbands went to law school together. I saw the video and said hey I know her…so good to see you. Say hi to your family and Hi to Dan from Doug!

Super cute! I have been doing a ton of things with burlap as well! I use recycled coffee bean bags for my burlap source! I have a question on the cutter and true type font software, does that work with the cricut?

First off I just wanted to thank-you for becoming a fan of “Look What I found Sis”. I am a huge fan of you and you couldn’t have made my day brighter. I didn’t see your studio 5 debute untell just now. You were great!! I think it was nice to see your burlap contributions it is one of my favorite medium’s. Ironically I had just posted a spotlight on my blog about burlap… how funny. Thanks for inspiring me. Keep up the fun crafts!

Honestly, I just purchased mine at Walmart : )

that sounds cool. the cardstock can be used a couple of times but if it is a shape that you know you’ll want to use over and over, Cricut sells stencil sheets that you can use in any electronic cutter. It is made from a plastic that can be wiped off and reused.

Oh my heck! Small world. Dan said to tell Doug hi as well!

What kind of personal cutter do you use/recommend and where can you purchase it and the program? I’m new to this technology but I REALLY want one! I’m thinking Christmas :) Thanks for sharing! Blessings!

It really depends. If you are big on the computer and like creating your own shapes and you want to be able to use any font you want then I would recommend the Silhouette cutter. I LOVE MINE!!!! I also love that you can download 1 image at a time off of their site and not have to purchase an entire line and their customer service is amazing. Talk to Kirk and tell him I said hi if you contact them. The downside is that they don’t have a huge distribution channel so unless your close to an Archivers or your local craft store carries it then you have to order on-line. The Cricut Expression is awesome if you aren’t very computer literate, It is easy to use and doesn’t require a computer. I also like that you can cut up to 24″. However, the cartridges can be expensive. They have a great selection and they are readily available at just about every craft store. Let me know if you have any other questions.
